All Hail Instagram, the Land of Misrepresentation!

Hey guys, I'm back! I know I'm one week late and I am sincerely very sorry. The new job has got me twisted. You know this ish with me wanting to always be at the top of my game? Yea, I guess I got carried away. Any ways I have missed writing so much, this is certainly where my heart belongs. For this week, I wrote an article on Biafra but my dear editors think it's too scandalous so I'm back in my factory adjusting and co . I can't not bug you guys with a new post so I present to you an article written by an acquaintance. His name is Taiwo ( my namesake) and he talks about something quite interesting. I'm sure you guys must have shared his opinion at some point. Enough with the preamble, enjoy.
After much persistent pleas from friends, I finally agreed to join Instagram. I have always been a fan of Twitter as it keeps me informed on what’s trending, news updates and I just totally love it! When first joined Instagram , I noticed that unlike Twitter, It was all about the best pictures and the trending videos.Even the ladies I knew with the worst cases of acne assault looked flawless on this magical app.
A friend asked me to check out a few celebrities on Instagram. I checked quite a number of the very famous ones and truth be told, I double tapped some.Pointless to say that on Instagram, these guys appear to be not just famous but rich or at least that's the message they pass across. The numerous show of gold chains, wades of dollars and designer stuff makes me realize just how far I am from true success . Mehn! I live in the dead side of Lagos oh. The houses on Instagram are mansions, the cars definitely not the Danfos I'm used to. Remind me about that fish out of water gist.
Anyways, I got exorcised from Instagram's evil spirit so here is my testimony. Asides from PR guys and those who run businesses on Instagram ,I think Instagram is just an app where ordinary people go to see how extraordinary people blow up money after hard work. I also think the Instagram life is so unreal. Although these celebrities smile and show off wealth, I doubt they live perfect lives. They get broke too abi? The show off just gets the ordinary guy all excited for nothing. Most of the time, he  double tap these pictures and videos thinking it will make him feel closer to the celebrity or like the celebrity. The hard truth is, these celebrities can not single out one "like" from the thousand "likes" on their picture. Then the girls who spend hours wearing heavy makeup and adorning themselves in the littlest of clothes. These set of girls are often referred to as Instacelebs ( whatever that means). The deal is you no longer need to even work hard to get popular. All you need to do is make yourself up and display your selling points.
I won't have made any reasonable point if I ignore the Instagram comic videos. Anyhow sha, these videos make your day 24/7 ! The annoying part is that everybody now wants to make funny videos which kinda disturbs my timeline!
On a personal note, the minute I close the app ,reality setin and I ask myself " you want what they have, but can you do what they did "? The feeling is exactly like one who has been tossed a bucket of cold water. In a flash I'm up planning how to make fast cash at least to buy an Iphone and a selfie stick. When I finally take a breath, I realize I'm just a normal guy with a normal life. The harm this silly pursuit has cost me, I cannot mention.
On a final note, dear friends, try not to get overwhelmed with the flashy things on Instagram. Endeavor to cave your own niche. That way, you don't spend hours "scoping" another man's page. Fantasy is the colonizer of the fool for his forte lacks the requisite grit to materialize his intentions. Pay now, play later. Play now, pay later.

  P. S: I hope you guys share Taiwo's opinion on the hazards of Instagram. Attached to this post is a picture of Taiwo. I'd love to hear from you guys especially on this post. Thank you guys!

  1. Ok. Let me say this. Taiwo has made some valid points though, but I don't think Instagram is all illusion and crap. Amidst the insta-celeb nuances and unreal people living seemingly on a fantasia planet, I would like you to know that there are also very real people on there. And for some people, their source of livelihood comes from there. I think the important point for you as an individual is to know exactly what you are doing and don't get sucked up into the illusionary insta-vortex. Your ability to seperate the wheat from the chaff will go a long way in saving you a lot of time and energy.

N.B: 10,000 followers on Instagram is not a sign or proof of success.

@MamaZeus still waiting for your scandalous article on Biafra.

  4. Hmmm... Truth be told, directly or indirectly, the things you see on Instagram slowly creep into your mind and can mess with it, especially when you are a person with no chills. I agree with Johnson and Taiwo. But I must say if you get all up trying to be successful, I think it is good motivation but then how you decide to go about it is what really matters, so it's either a fail or a win. Stayed motivated not desperate. Peace out.
